DPS/Dictionaries
DPS/Dictionaries is a tool highly tailored to the production of lexical works. It is a sophisticated yet easy-to-understand collaborative tool for teams of lexicographers creating mono- or multilingual dictionary products. It is currently used in production by almost 500 authors worldwide on dictionaries and reference works in a multitude of languages.
DPS/Dictionaries is focused on simple editing and production process efficiency, breaking functionality into modules:
Data and Metadata Database
The database is the foundation from which all operations are supported, storing:
Entry content in XML format.
Information about entries: versions, cross-references, editing dates, author, etc.
Information about work allocation: lists of entries, authors allocated to them, processes and tasks.
User account and permissions information.
Workflow Manager
While the editing process may simply be described as the execution of tasks by authors and editors over a given schedule, the detail of lexical projects and the requirements of team operations require a powerful set of tools for creating and managing dictionary workflows. The DPS workflow tools assign formal descriptions to the editing processes, defining Processes, Steps, and Tasks, which:
Allow automatic division of the data into batches based on extent, order, number of entries, or other criteria.
Allow creation of editorial groups.
Manage task assignment to users or groups.
Support progress control and reporting.
The DPS Entry Editor
The Entry Editor is an application installed on each user’s computer. It allows them to work remotely through an Internet connection, giving them a quick link to the Repository and to Workflow control features, while still letting them work offline on work batches that they have downloaded. Key writing features include:
Twin Document Display for a powerful WYSIWYG XML Editing.
User definable templates for frequently used entry structures.
Easy-to-use XML attributes editing form.
Cross-reference creation and editing tools.
Drag-and-drop structural editing capability.
The Entry Editor is fully integrated with other DPS/Dictionaries Modules, allowing users to interact directly with the database when needed. They can search, move content in or out of the database, and interact with their workflow tasks directly from the editor, as well as work offline once content has been retrieved.
Search Engine
All installations include IDM’s powerful Lucene-based XML search engine, SkXmlJ, providing these key benefits:
It can search for a combination of XML elements and full-text, so that all combinations of content and structure are at your fingertips.
It uses the Lucene search engine, which gives you incremental indexing and updating of your content. This means that even while editors are working on the data, all search results are up-to-date within a few minutes of each edit or change.
The search results can be formatted in many different ways to make the following editing stage as efficient as possible.
DPS/Dictionaries, like all IDM applications, comes with an Application Programming Interface (API) for Integrations, which gives you the capability to set up any number of automated data processes be they for ingestion of new content, export, data updates, or QA reporting. Via DPS/Process, it can push data to your public facing portals and web services powered by PitchLeads. |
