THE MORAL OF A TV SERIAL
The youngest son in a family of three, Xu was known in the village as one feckless weakling — that's good-for-nothing. After middle school, and especially with no practical thoughts in mind, he joined the army at his father's bidding. He was wholly unaware then of the difficulties ahead.
Once in the military, however, he was looked down upon wherever he went, and often taunted by fellow soldiers. Many said that it was just a matter of time for such a big drag to be kicked out for good. But against all odds, one inherent virtue of his was about to work wonders for his life.
Xu displayed a remarkable patience and persistence, unrelenting in whatever he had to do. Among so many incredible things he pulled off, five feats, just as five heaven-or-hell junctures on someone's life journey, led him to success:
1)with bare hands and all from scratch, he managed to pave the dirt road in front of their humble quarters in the shape of a five-pointed star;
2)he made an astonishing record of 333 Stomach Spins on a horizontal bar (283 more than expected), thanks to which he was sick in bed for a week;
3)he single-handedly captured one enemy lieutenant colonel during a major military exercise, who turned out to be an ace fighter of the army's most elite troops;
4)along with another two fellow contestants, he completed a grueling, two-day survival test, in which they were chased and harassed day and night by groups of enemies twenty times as theirs;
5)in a mock counter-terrorist operation, his move reduced the probability to a meager 15% of terrorists detonating a plant of toxic chemicals. It was not until he had driven the truck loaded with explosives way out of the plant that he realized he had been fooled.
Xu's story stretches into a lengthy, 30-part TV serial, but it could also be adapted into a common three-hour film based on these five feats. If so the film would be a valuable life lesson for us all.
You must have known one or two people in real life who are always whining about their talent being unrecognized. Ask them to reflect next time if they have done anything special enough to attract some talent scout's attention.
