各大汉语词典里面都没有这个词，但不妨碍英汉词典大剌剌地用：
陆谷孙英汉大词典：
新牛津英汉：
backstreet

a minor street away from the main roads 后街; 小道：
we took a short cut through the backstreets of Kings Cross我们从英皇十字区的后街抄了近道
as modifier a backstreet garage.后街加油站。
原来，back 是「后」，编者就干脆把backstreet说成是「后街」了啊！真省事儿
牛津高阶的译者就认真了一点儿：
backstreetNOUN
a small quiet street, usually in a poor part of a town or city, away from main roads偏僻街道，小巷（常位于贫民区）
牛津高阶说「小巷」，因为「大街小巷」是汉语里头常说的。不说「小道」，因为汉语里头可以说「小道消息」，backstreet却不能这么用
话说回来，backstreet里面的back，究竟是什么意思呢？SOED说：
In combs. in various relations (often difficult to distinguish) and senses, as ‘of or on the back’, ‘backwards’, ‘reverse’, ‘rearmost’. (Many, esp. when back has an adjectival function, can be written with or without a hyphen.)
意思就是back在复合词里面的具体意义很丰富……很丰富……丰富……然后就不具体讲了
urban dictionary 里面，有人这么讲：
back street
A street behind other streets; sometimes hidden, sometimes hard to find,……
躲在其他街道的后头，藏得挺深，还满不好找的，这样的街就叫back street。这么讲姑且通了吧。
urban dictionary 上面还有些释文，强调back street 往往是贫民区的，在backstreet boy这乐队火了以后，还带上了同性恋色彩（呃……）
Backstreet
Coming from the wrong side of the tracks, poor and uneducated, from a low socioeconomic group. This term (backstreet boy/girl) was around long before the band of the same name.
我的感想就是：
1. 多备一些词典还是很有必要的
2. 有的时候，要是英文不好，英汉词典都看不懂 —— 英汉词典的编辑人员，你们能备一本汉语词典再动手翻译吗？
