When you speak your native language, you don't make up your own grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. You usethe same grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation as people around you.Similarly, when trying to speak a foreign language, your goal is to imitate thegrammar, vocabulary and pronunciation of native speakers, so that your way ofspeaking is correct and natural. Do iteveryday and you'll soon see how much you can learn. Remember, if you listen to lots of CDs everyday, you'llget very good at listening. Or someone who is really good at both listening andspeaking? [2] The rule is listening. Listening, listening, listening. Mabye .you ask me what CDs do I hear ? To speak English easily, you must repeat each lesson manytimes. You must learn English deeply. [3] Learn deeply, speak easily. Learn deeply, speak easily. RULE 10 : See yourself in thefuture. The American president? Thepresident of your company? Britney Spears? David Beckham? You are laughingand joking. You understand everything they say. They understandeverything you say. You are having a thoroughly enjoyable time. You are speakingfluent English. Look in the mirror. This is you. Keep this image in mind; this isyour new goal. Work everyday to make it come true. [2] RULE 11 : Use all of yourResources Even if you study English at a language school it doesn’tmean you can’t learn outside of class. The internet is a fantastic resource for virtually anything, but for thelanguage learner it's perfect. [2] Another thing that you should do when learning how tospeak English is to make sure that you use all of the different resources youhave at your disposal. While many people take classes in English, they areignoring the internet. The internet is in fact the single greatest resource forlearning languages that has ever existed. Not only are there websites that you canpractice your reading skills on, but there are also downloadable audio files aswell as online exercises at many websites that you can do to help yourself learnhow to speak the language. Resource use is a very important part oflearning a new language and if you want to make the learning process easier, usingthe online learning tools at your disposal is definitely a very good idea. [7] RULE 12 : Surround Yourself withEnglish The best way to train your brain to think and understandin another language is to immerse yourself in the language as much as possibleand surround yourself with it. How much of your dailycommunication is speaking / listening? How much is reading / writing? That's the same balance you should use when learning English. For most peoplethis means over ninety percent of the time should be speaking and listening. This is great news, because it means you can learn a whole lot more in a much shorterspace of time. Just concentrate on the important points of speaking andlistening. [2] RULE 15 : REVISE! REVISE! REVISE! If you revise, you'll improve your learning by 100%.Whatdoes "to revise" mean? It means "to look again". You should besystematic about this. When you learnsomething, you should note it. Then you should *lookat it again*, 3 times: - after 1 day after 1 week after 1 month Each time you revise, test yourself : REVISE! "to look again"[10] RULE 16 : A little a day , Worksmart, not hard Research in other countries shows that instead of a bigstudy session once a week, a little everyday is much more effective. Get in toa routine and don't allow your mind to forget what you have learnt. Seeeveryday as a chance to add something extra to your English potential. Make it aroutine. Like learning to play baseball or to ride a bike, or a little exercise, whatever you do everyday, you get good at it. Do a little English everyday and youwill get good at it. [2] If you decide to work 20 hours a day on English. Will youget good? Well, what if you spent 20 hours a day practising baseball? In thebeginning you might see some improvement, but after a while you'll simply gettired. Although every minute adds up, every minute has to count. Instead ofsimply focussing on the time, or seeing how many CDs you've listened to, worksmart instead of hard. 5 minutes of good concentrated practice is worth more thana hundred hours of tediously studying grammar. You time is important, you'llnever get it back, so work smart, not hard. [2] In fact, 30 minutes of English study once a day is better than 5 *hours* once a week! Study regularly. Study often. LITTLE + OFTEN is better than LOT + SOMETIMES. It's easier, too. You can easily find 30 minutes each day. How? You can get up 30 minutes earlier. Or have a shorter lunch break. Fix a particular time every day - and keep it! RULE 17: Be careful When you buy … When you buy your books or CDs, buy lots of different CDsfrom lots of different companies. The reason is that many CDs in Iranare written by people who don't speak English and hence they contain lots ofmistakes. But if you buy lots of different CDs and books, you'll soon figure outwhich bits of English are real, and which are not! Learn English that is cool, sothat other people are so impressed they say "wow!" when they hear youspeak. [2] ********************************** END : Good luck!Do your best! You will bebetter.
