好几次看到if only because这个组合，但是网上好多翻译都是错的。

本帖隐藏的内容看到最上面这个句子，很多人的反应是先联想到if only这个组合。bingo! 你是对的。但是中学和大学的教科书里教的是“要是..多好啊“这层意思，依稀记得是教虚拟语气的时候提到过。而if only 还有一个意思，也就是这个例句中所使用的，那就是”即使仅仅" "哪怕只是"。所以大家看到if only because, 可以直接在大脑中译为”哪怕只是因为“。好啦，再看一次例句，看看逻辑是不是很通顺了吖。
下面看一下使用上与其他组合的区别
I clean the kitchen floor because it's dirty. = I do the cleaning for this reason: The floor is dirty at that time.
I clean the kitchen floor only because it's dirty. = I do the cleaning for this reason, and only this reason; I don't do it for any other reason: The floor is dirty at that time.
I clean the kitchen floor once a month if only because I've gotten into the habit. = I do the cleaning for no really good reason. I do not do the cleaning because the floor is necessarily dirty, for example. Maybe IF I do the cleaning, the real reason is ONLY/simply/just BECAUSE I'm in the habit of doing so, whether the floor is dirty or not.
=I clean the kitchen floor once a month for no better reason than that I've gotten into the habit.
