今天学习Englishpod的时候看到这样一句话:
I hate brown rice, and I’m so sick of eating healthy all the time.
在手头的词典上并没有看到healthy作为副词使用的例子,通过Google发现eat healthy非常常见,比eat healthily/healthfully出现频里还高。找到两个帖子,原来:
It is becoming extremely widespread to use theadjective “healthy” also as an adverb, so it is not uncommon to hear “eathealthy”, especially in American English. Nevertheless, major Englishdictionaries do not list adverbial “healthy” as an acceptable alternative to“healthily” (or “healthfully”), so it is advisable to avoid it in any kind offormal writing and English tests. American Heritage now accepts “healthy” as anadverb meaning “so as to promote one’s health” or “in a healthy way.” Thedictionary gives this example: “If you eat healthy, you’ll probably livelonger.” The phrase “eat healthy” gets more than twice as many Google hits (2.4million) as “eat healthily” (1 million). As we’ve said many times, popularusage eventually wins out. 链接在这里,感兴趣的可以点进去看看:
healthy:
So as to promote one's health; in a healthy way: If you eat healthy, you'll probably live longer.
所以结论就是eat healthy口语中放心大胆地用,写作或者考试中最好还是避免,但是相信再过去几年主流词典会收录这一释义的。
顿时觉得备一本美国传统还是很有必要,这本词典会倾向于收纳美国的词汇变化的新动向。
发上来给大家参考一下。
