无财非贫，无学乃为贫；
无位非贱，无耻乃为贱；
无年非夭，无述乃为夭；
无子非孤，无德乃为孤。
Having no money doesn't equal poverty. Having no knowledge does.
Having no official position is not comtemptible. Having no sense of shame is.
Untimely death doesn't mean dying at a very young age. Untimely death means dying without having done anything commendable.
Having no children doesn't equal true loneliness. Having no moral principles does.
