Subject: Scientists find new ways to measure tiny things.

本帖隐藏的内容Tiny measurements yield big discoveries.
As scientists learn how to make more exact measurements, they are finding some astonishing surprises. The enthusiastic stomping of soccer fans after a goal creates a foot quake on earthquake gauges thirty or more miles away. Florida is getting closer to Canada by about one inch every thirty-six years. Astronomers soon will be able to measure the sideways motion of a star trillions of miles away, even though it's moving at a speed of less than ten inches an hour. It takes sixty-one trillionth of an ounce of force to make one atom hop over another.
