 先说第一个事儿，【选情焦灼】是错别字，因为「焦灼」的意思是「非常着急」，和「选情」不搭。
胶着
jiāozhuó 动 比喻相持不下，不能解决：
～状态。
【选情胶着】才是正确的。
「胶着」「焦灼」在北京话里同音，所以有人混淆了。「胶」本来读giao，「焦」本来读ziao，在今天的很多方言里仍是不同音的。

汉英词典翻译「胶着」大同小异。汉英大词典（第3版）：
胶着

• 胶着状态 deadlock; stalemate; impasse
• 胶着战 sitzkrieg
可是双语语料表明，其实新闻里面的【选情胶着】根本就用不着这些难词。请看：

能不能用deadlock、stalemate？能，但是用的不多，而且强调的是「僵局」而不是「你追我赶，咬得很紧」。
