[- zhuó]
deadlocked; coalescence; stalemated:
“We are exactly where I thought we would be, in a very close election with 12 days left with two things to do and two things only:
Yet the poll here showed that the race is tight
With time running out and polls showing a close race, they delivered urgent and explicit pleas to their supporters and skeptics.
The baby’s birth, which provided Britons with a diversion from a close and divisive election campaign
would quickly find herself in a tighter race.
Senator Mary Landrieu, the Louisiana Democrat locked in a tight re-election race
The 2016 contest between Trump and Hillary Clinton produced a similarly tight finish, with Clinton winning the popular vote but Trump securing the backing of the Electoral College.

A major maker of solar panels opened another chapter in a long-simmering trade dispute on Tuesday
It concludes: “Reform has to some extent fallen into stalemate.”
officials have been locked in a contentious discussion
They said that they were stepping into the Tikrit fight only after the Iranian- and militia-led advance on the city had stalled after three weeks, and that they welcomed working solely with Iraqi government forces.

IN BRAZIL, JAIR BOLSONARO IS GLUED TO THE U.S. ELECTION
But from Tuesday into the early hours of Wednesday morning, they'll be glued to the outcome of the US election
