You know, Francis did a bus tour in 98, and the bus lost its brakes going down the hill, and we landed in a tobacco field. He gets out of the car, knocks on the farmer's door, writes a cheque for all the damaged crops, and borrows his pickups (vehicle) so he doesn't miss next event. And it was actually fun. He was driving; I was shotgun. And we had the whole staff in the flatbed. We actually got there ten minutes early.

大家注意到她讲述中的时态变化没？这在书面英语中是大忌，但在口语中 ... really, who cares?

一个花絮。我的美国朋友说，如果我没指出这点，他根本就没注意到。
母语者们对语法，对时态，根本就不像我们这么敏感的。

I guess when native English speakers talk, they don't usually have a grammar book in hand for instant reference...

描述过去事件时，穿插一般现在时是可以的，语法里面是允许的（历史现在时？），目的是使表达更生动，如发生在眼前。

老外对语法无感是已经内化了，就像中国人说汉语时，根本不会考虑自己所说的语法上是否正确（往往是正确的）。

It doesn't change anything with this "where" in the place or without. It's perfectly omittable.

I used an app to slow the audio clip down to only half of its normal speed and listened to it repeatedly and I can say with confidence that there is no "where".

As I said, in this statement, "where" can be omitted without changing its meaning.

I am quite sure about what I heard, too. I can go back to the point where it's said (and check with the subtitles), but I doubt it's worth the trouble.
