在mdx版的Webster's Third New International Dictionary of the English Language, Unabridged, 2003 中，发现一小小失误。
syl·lep·sis ⁄……
2. ……◇“the tank fired, and the bridge and many hopes sand” is an example of syllepsis ⇒ compare zeugma
显然这一例句中的sand 错了一个字母而引起费解，韦氏在线已经没有这一例句。根据逻辑推断，应该为
sank， “the tank fired, and the bridge and many hopes sank” (坦克开火了，桥和许多希望同时下沉了；或：桥毁了，许多希望也破灭了).
mdx 词典中错把sank打成 sand了。
关于syllepsis
来自韦氏大词典mdx版2003年的解释，再加上《英汉辞海》中的汉译（但例句不一样），组成以下英汉对照的内容：
syl·lep·sis ⁄ sə̇ˈlepsə̇s ⁄ n. (plural syllep·ses ⁄ -pˌsēz ⁄ ) Etym.:Latin, from Greek syllēpsis, from the stem of syllambanein to gather together, put together + -sis -- more at syllable
1. the use of a word (as an adjective or verb) in grammatical agreement with only one of two nouns by which it is governed 兼用法 用一个词(如形容词或动词)修饰或从句法上支配两个词或更多的词，而这些词中只有一个与该词在性、数、格上形式一致。
◇the verb in “I remain well and my wife also” is an example of syllepsis
【英汉辞海中的例句: (the ship and many sailors were sinking quickly is an example of ～“船和许多水手很快地往下沉”就是兼用法的一个例子。】
2. the use of a word in the same grammatical relation to two adjacent words in its literal sense with one and a metaphorical sense with the other 一笔双叙法 以同样的语法关系，将一个词用于在两个上下文中邻近的词，而这两个词在意思上一个属于隐喻，另一个是本义的
◇“the tank fired, and the bridge and many hopes sank” is an example of syllepsis ⇒ compare zeugma （“坦克开火了，桥和许多希望都毁灭了”就是一笔双叙法的一个例子）
【英汉辞海:(their taunts, more cutting than knives is an example of ~ “他们的嘲笑，比刀还尖刻”就是一笔双叙法的一个例子】
比起韦氏2003年的英文解释，韦氏在线语句略有调整，少了例句：
1: the use of a word to modify or govern syntactically two or more words with only one of which it formally agrees in gender, number, or case 2: the use of a word in the same grammatical relation to two adjacent words in the context with one literal and the other metaphorical in sense. |
